A travel craze has swept the world in the post-COVID-19 era. With a surge in global travelers, aircraft pilots are back in their positions, flying as frequently as they did before the pandemic. However, there's another type of Pilot you might not be familiar with: ROV Pilot. Unlike aircraft pilots, ROV Pilots are responsible for controlling ROV(remotely operated vehicle) underwater.
Take DWTEK’s ROV pilots, for example. Their main duty is to navigate a ROV from the sea's surface to a submerged target to carry out underwater missions. Working in a control cabin that resembles an airplane cockpit, ROV pilots operate hand controllers to maneuver the ROV in front of several monitors. Beyond just diving, they control a ROV's manipulators, brushes, and measurement equipment to meet client needs, such as collecting ocean biological samples, cleaning offshore wind turbines, and inspecting deep-sea systems.
ROV Pilot’s Diverse Duties
Furthermore, DWTEK ROV pilots’ duties also include pre-dive ROV assembly, maintenance, troubleshooting, and water-testing. They thoroughly check ROV systems, akin to hospital screenings, from external appearance to internal chambers and every installed component like cameras, lights, and thrusters, etc. Their responsibilities extend to customizing a ROV system and configuration for specific missions. This includes calculating ROV buoyancy, electrical wiring plan, selecting camera pixels, and determining thrusters propulsion, along with any additional add-ons.
DWTEK Pilots Team, Tackle Challenges with You!
DWTEK’s pilot team is trained according to the IMCA-R002 guidelines, meeting global standards. We provide DNV-GL certified ROV control cabins in 16ft and 20ft sizes. In early April, we were proud to announce our membership in IMCA. We are always ready to support you, feel free to email us your inquiries or tell us your requirements!
