Mission Log – The Aesthetic Botox that Keep Wind Turbines Young and Beautiful

Wind Turbine Cathodic Protection and Drop Cell Measurement

As we age, we start to think about the botox, the hyaluronic acid, the Aesthefill, the collagen…, all those injections and elixir of life to reduce the time trace on the face. Similarly, over time, electrolytes present in seawater can inflict damage akin to rust and corrosion on wind turbine foundations and piles. This is where cathodic protection steps in, playing a role of 'botox' by safeguarding submerged metallic structures from severe corrosion. Our expertise lies in monitoring and ensuring the effectiveness of cathodic protection systems.

Cathodic protection is crucial for safeguarding underwater wind turbine structures against corrosion. It finds wide use in protecting various submerged metallic structures, including ships, subsea equipment, and pipelines, among others. Not going to detail the practice and principle, but the annual survey and inspection of the CP condition, is the key to keep the underwater part of the wind turbines in good shape without corrosion.

In August of last year, our technicians performed CP surveys using Drop Cell measurements on at least 10 wind turbines located in the Taiwan Strait. Leveraging necessary survey instruments and software, our skilled technician team meticulously recorded vital data, enabling experts to make further estimation.

Additionally, we also offer subsea cathodic protection surveys (CP surveys) conducted using ROVs, extending this service to our clients. We are the whole package for wind turbines aesthetic, with us, to maintain the beauty has never been easier.
